We are pleased to say that we are again open for referrals.

Our Mentoring service is for young people aged 10 (year 6)-18 years of age and live in the Forest of Dean

Mentoring provides a young person with a trusted adult who will support them, help them make wise decisions and work towards achieving their goals or just provide space to talk about things they are worried about.

Your young person may benefit from mentoring if they:

  • Are struggling to engage in their education
  • Lack self confidence
  • Are disruptive at school
  • Are worried about things happening in the family

Mentors usually meet with a young person every 1-2 weeks for at least 12 months. It’s important that you support your young person to keep appointments that have been made with their mentor.

Our mentors are volunteers who have been through a recruitment process, undertaken a programme of training, and have been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Some things young people have said about having a mentor

…Talking to my mentor helped me get stuff off my mind…

…Helped me concentrate on my school work…

…Mentoring helps you make good choices…

If your young person has been referred to Breathe Mentoring you will receive a visit from our Mentor Coordinator who will discuss the service more fully with you and your son/daughter and give you the opportunity to ask questions. They will then identify a suitable mentor and arrange to introduce them to you and your young person.

At present we do not take referrals direct from parents or young people. If you have a son or daughter that you think would benefit from having a mentor, please ask the school your child attends or other organisation working with you to make a referral to Breathe Mentoring.

If you would like to find out more about the service you are welcome to contact one of our Mentor Coordinators: Ruth Julius: Phone: 07738 422831 Email: rjulius@breatheyouth.org.uk or Duncan de Gruchy: phone: 07375147924 Email: ddegruchy@breatheyouth.org.uk
