Our Mentoring service is for young people aged 11 -18 years of age (school years 6-13) who live in the Forest of Dean.
We don’t currently accept self referrals, but will accept referrals from any agency supporting you including the school your child attends.
How does it work?
Mentoring provides a young person with a trusted adult who will support them, help them make wise decisions and work towards achieving their goals, or just provide space to talk about things they are worried about.
Your young person may benefit from mentoring if they:
– Are struggling to engage in their education
– Lack self confidence
– Are disruptive at school
– Are worried about things happening in the family
Mentors usually meet with a young person every 1-2 weeks for at least 12 months. It’s important that you support your young person to keep appointments that have been made with their mentor.
If your young person has been referred to Breathe Mentoring you will receive a visit from our Mentor Coordinator who will discuss the service more fully with you and your son/daughter and give you the opportunity to ask questions. They will then identify a suitable mentor and arrange to introduce them to you and your young person.
About our Mentors
Our mentors are volunteers who have been through a recruitment process, undertaken a programme of training, and have been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
